The Melodic Blue is the new album from West coast star Baby Keem. Me being a big fan of Baby Keem, I was ecstatic when this album dropped. After the first week it feels and sounds a little underwhelming, but it is always important that you give music time to grow on you. The main curveball was Baby Keem decided to leave his first single from this year “no sense” off of the album. Then in the initial album trailer, “scapegoats” sounded like a whole new shift for Keem. It felt like he was really going to take a step lyrically on The Melodic Blue. There are still plenty of highs to talk about on this album and “issues” is one of the many. The Melodic Blue shows a more personal side to Baby Keem, as many tracks aren’t as in your face as previous. “issues” is a heartfelt letter from Baby Keem that details his struggles and battles with his personal demons. All of this mixes in with Baby Keem’s mental and is why he has trouble staying in relationships. Baby Keem’s vocals on “issues” are great, he has always been terrific at switching from rapping to singing. The visual finds Baby Keem riding a bike in an empty landscape which feels like him endlessly pedaling into a void. As Keem begins to sing, “don’t let the wolves come get you” in the hook, a helicopter starts flying behind him. This visual is a trip into Baby Keem’s head when this song plays. When Baby Keem becomes more anxious the music picks up and the helicopter gets closer to him. He eventually escapes but walks toward the helicopter at the end of the video. I love this video and this track overall is a can’t miss. My connection with the symbolism of the video and the music could be completely wrong, but that is the wonderful thing about music. Stream The Melodic Blue and don’t be as picky as me. Wrote an article for "family ties" off of The Melodic Blue that will be below. Check out the visual for “issues” below.
