Baby Keem has been on a blazing hot streak and it is not ending anytime soon. Already previously releasing two terrific singles this year called “no sense” and “durag activity” with Travis Scott. The two singles have made this my most anticipated album of the year but “family ties” pushes my excitement into a whole new realm. He is prepping for the release of his next album The Melodic Blue, which Keem just said yesterday that he turned the album in. We last heard from Baby Keem in 2019 with Die For My B***h and that album is flawless front to back. If you don’t know who Baby Keem is you’re living under a rock, he’s related to Kendrick Lamar. The return of Kendrick Lamar is also upon us, as last week he shared that he is working on finishing up his final album with his label TDE. “family ties” is their first official collaboration and they swung for the fences. The instrumental is bonkers as it has two beat switches. Baby Keem and Kendrick equally divide responsibilities and get straight to making their listeners go crazy. The track begins with emphatic horns letting everyone know that this duo is not to be played with. Baby Keem’s skittish flow and erratic vocals somehow still overpower the banging drums. Usually I find the nonstop rapping method somewhat boring and overused but Baby Keem finds a way to make every word in his verses stick out. The beat slows down a little before it completely shifts over to Kendrick and he reminds listeners that he never left. “Smoking on your top five tonight” is going to haunt me forever, Kendrick bodied his verse and told us to stay patient with his music. The visual is just as stunning, I love how you can see all the shots from Baby Keem’s first verse pile up onto each other as the song goes on. Then in scene 2, the setting changes and you see Kendrick begin to turn up. Baby Keem has become one of my favorite artists and I honestly cannot wait any longer for The Melodic Blue.
