Seeing the resurgence of VIC MENSA has been such a special feeling, especially with him being one of my favorite rappers of all time. The Chicago rap veteran is back with visuals for the first track off of his latest mixtape, I TAPE, called “VICTORY”. I TAPE is the second tape in Vic’s mixtape series ‘VIC TAPE’. V TAPE was released back in August of 2020, so Vic is taking his time and being careful with these projects. The story telling element is such an important part of hip-hop to me, and VIC MENSA has created some of the most vivid stories of his career on V TAPE and I TAPE. “VICTORY” feels like Vic in his final form. He comes through with the punch-lines, the grittiness, and the middle finger to all his haters. He addresses the dangers that come with being a rapper saying, “What you thought was in the Heron Preston shoulder bag, d*****s? One strap ‘cause I’d rather be caught packin’ than be caught lackin’” The track was produced by Just Blaze and Vic absolutely snaps on the beat in each of his verses. In the video you see Vic riding around the city of Chicago capturing dope shots of him on a sport bike. Vic also took the time to hide five I TAPES around the city, and the five fans who found them got to ride around with Vic. You see throughout the video Vic picking up the winners in a slick black Lamborghini. I TAPE is one of my favorite projects of the year, you hear VIC MENSA at his highest tier. Check out the visual for “VICTORY” above and stream I TAPE available on every platform.
