Russ released his self-produced track "Utah Freestyle" in September, one of the most recent in a string of weekly releases that the Atlanta-based talent has been treating his fans with all year. The "Utah Freestyle" has him gloating about his accomplishments, echoing earlier JAY-Z lines about owning his masters, and more, much like his more hip hop-oriented works. Russ has been on an incredible tear in terms of singles since ending his contract with Columbia. This year, he has given listeners more music in a shorter period of time than some of his colleagues have contributed in whole bodies of work. "SHAKE THE SNOW GLOBE", which was his final official release before his return to freedom, kicked off the year. Rick Ross, Kiana Ledé, Bugus, Benny The Butcher, Devin The Dude, and BIA all had cameos on SHAKE THE SNOW GLOBE, which featured 14 tracks. With 63,000 first-week album equivalent sales, the project reached the top five on the Billboard 200, prompting Russ to release a deluxe edition of SHAKE THE SNOW GLOBE, which included seven more tracks. Russ then wrapped out the year with CHOMP, a five-track EP featuring Ab-Soul, DJ Premier, Busta Rhymes, Black Thought, and more.
