Lil Yachty - Strike (Holster) (Directed by Cole Bennett)

ajmusicreport

Lil Yachty made a splash on the hip-hop scene in the middle of the decade with songs like "One Night," "Minnesota," and "Broccoli," but by the end of the decade, his stardom and viral appeal had perhaps peaked. Yachty is back in the spotlight and consistently leaving audiences stunned, as evidenced in his new song "Strike (Holster)," but only after a recent smash hit single and career-altering studio album.Yachty is still riding the roaring wave of momentum six months after his eccentric single "Poland," which peaked at No. 40 on the Billboard Hot 100, and just over two months after his experimental psychedelic rock album Let us Start Here. Yachty appears to have found a formula for success by using vocal inflections that are comparable to those in "Poland" and holding the protracted "oooooooh" harmony at the song's climax.

Lil Yachty weaves repeated allusions to the word strike throughout the song as he raps about his passion for promethazine. On the chorus, Yachty sings, "Strike shit like a match, Strike like I missed it, Strike like I hit the pin, Strike like I am not goin' to work." His spontaneity and youth are evident throughout the track. The video for "Strike (Holster)" has received over a million views since it was released, demonstrating the validity of Yachty's comeback. Whether or not the new single is promoting a forthcoming effort is unknown, but it unquestionably exemplifies Yachty's work ethic and distinctive composition. Watch the video down below.
