In 2022, Kenny Mason emerged strongly from his "SHELL" with one of the greatest songs off his most recent mixtape, RUFFS. The Atlanta emcee not only saw progress and ascent over the year, but also global exposure after the release of his third full-length CD in September.
Kenny is a huge dog among puppies in the underground after collaborating with Dreamville's JID on features and releasing the indisputable summer song "STICK." He is also earning well-deserved praise for the rock-rap hybrid that is RUFFS. "SHELL" is the third video off of Mason's new LP, omitting the PUP PACK exclusive "Get An Idea" directed by JMP, and it serves as an early holiday gift to begin the month of December.Mason raps on the sights and experiences that are buried in his immediate surroundings in "SHELL," which was produced by Coupe. He raps, "Good Kid in da city but I was reared in da MAAD areas / Blood on the asphalt, my brudda was half out / my mother had passed out," on the track "SHELL," giving listeners a better idea of the battlegrounds Atlanta is known for. The domestically produced, JMP-directed video gives more context to what he is saying by showing him going about his daily business while reflecting on the stresses that he refers to in his songs. Because Mason can clearly see that everything is real, the RUFFS experience sounds professional but is overall still rough around the edges.
