The Chicago rap scene is one of the most valuable in the world. Everyday, we see new artists and creatives with diverse skill sets release timeless music. The juggernaut duo that is Justoid and Shell Casing are back with another stellar visual for Justoid’s new song “22”. This track was released just in time on February 22nd, 2022.
“22” has to be the most reflective song that we have heard from Justoid. One of my favorite things about Justoid are his production choices, he never fails to choose a track that he can show his strengths on. Produced by 0ne, Justoid reminisces on his upbringing over a chill instrumental with a slick guitar. Justoid delivers heartfelt lines like, “Remember back in school we used a blanket as a booth/Now we order what we want recording in the loop” and “Every year I learn so much I take it in eternally”. “22” is truly a humble moment from Justoid and I am very excited for the direction of his music after this release. Justoid posted on Instagram and stated, “This song hits deep- I talk a lot more personal than usual on this track and with a more broad topic. It really felt like the start of a ‘new sound’ or a step up in my work creatively”.
The music video is another movie from Ryan Baker at Shell Casing. Justoid and Shell Casing travel around the loop of Chicago getting crisp shots at Millennium park and of Chicago’s skyscrapers. While shooting the visual, Justoid and Ryan worked with a group of local dancers and they were all able to create some memorable shots together.
