The arc of Denzel Curry is one of my favorites to hear from last decade. He has solidified himself as one of the most versatile rappers to come with this new wave of hip-hop. The 2010s gave way to many breakthrough artists from Florida such as XXXTENTACION, Kodak Black, Ski Mask The Slump God and more. Even with star studded peers around him, Denzel’s influence on the entire sound of hip-hop cannot be missed. The Broward county rapper has endless energy, his delivery is dexterous and he has an aura of a rap legend. When I look back on his discography, I believe Denzel Curry has truly set himself apart from majority of artists and even has left an impact in my life.
We haven’t heard a true solo album from Denzel since the 2019 release Zuu. The UNLOCKED series he dropped with Kenny Beats was fantastic and Kenny Beats challenged Denzel Curry to tap into yet another side of himself. Just today, Denzel Curry joined Zane Lowe and spoke about what life has been for the past few years and his new album MELT MY EYEZ SEE YOUR FUTURE. He also announced a tour that will begin in April so that means the album is coming sooner rather than later. Denzel has been working on a film that he is dropping alongside the album release as well.
I have been patiently waiting for what is next and “Walkin” is the debut single from the upcoming project. I hope that this track ends up being the intro. The song begins with Denzel glazing over a boom bap instrumental about how he has gotten in touch with himself. This track is filled with many meaningful raps and has somehow shot my excitement for his new music to an even higher level. I love how he can come with an aggressive approach or take the mellow route. This track has a heavenly sample and an ear pleasing switch up that finds Denzel picking up the tempo. The music video places Denzel Curry in what seems like the Wild West. He travels across a town and an endless desert to a giant hand made from the sand. I assume the film will have the same aesthetic as the visual and I love that decision and overall look. Don’t miss this track and Denzel Curry’s album Melt My Eyez See Your Future coming soon. Check out the visual for “Walkin”.
